What Is a Red Tag?
A gas company red tag is placed on outdated or broken items. Usually- but not always- this is a water heater that need to be fixed in order to be functional. Types of Red Tags
There are two types of red tags that a technician may assign to your appliance. A type A red tag is the more severe of the two. A type A tag is issued when an immediate threat is identified. Most commonly this type of tag is given when a carbon monoxide leak is found. Your gas will be shut off until the problem is fixed and cleared by a technician from your gas company. You will have a certain amount of time, commonly 45 days, from the date the B tag was issued to have the named problem fixed and cleared or the gas company will most likely turn off your homes gas.
